The hematological effect of parathion intoxication in male albino rats was studied with the following results.
(1) The acute intoxication group in which parathion had been injected once intravenously at 8 mg/kg of body weight revealed a significant decrease of hemoglobin, prolonged j9Fe ctisappearance half time and a transitory incrE~ase of neutrophil as well as a transitory decrease of lymphocyte.
(2) The acute intoxication group in which aconcomitant treatment of PAM (20mg; kg of body weight) had been given intravenously twice at the interval of 6 hours showed the complete recor-ery of anemia after 4 weeks. Although a transitory: increase of neutrophil and a decrease of lymphocyte were noted, the degree of increment or decrement was milder as compared with that of the non-treated group.
(3) The chronic intoxication group in which parathion had been injected intravenously avery day for 4 weeks at 1.Omg/kg of body weight disclosed a decrease of hemoglobin, a prolonged plasma o9Fe disappearance half time acid sustained decrease of neutrophil as well as lymphocyte.
(4) The chronic intoxication group iii ~vhich a concomitant treatment of PAM (lO.Omg/kg ofbody weight) had been given subcutaneously every day for 4 weeks showed no reduction of hemoglobin and a milder decrease of both neutrophil and lymphocyte as compared with the non-treated group.
